Planner magnetic

Audeze Penrose, Mobius and maxwell all these headphones are Planar magnetic headphones (orthodynamic or isodynamic).

Which means the way they are built it has elements of both dynamic and electrostatic headphones. A conductive diaphragm is between magnets to create a planar driver. That’s why the name Planner magnetic head-phones. These headphones are gaining popularity since 2010 and Audeze is well known brand in making such headphones.

Frequency response

Audeze Penrose, Mobius as well as Maxwell offers frequency response of 10 Hz-50 Khz.

These range is above average and can support good bass, mids and treble.

Sound Quality

Both Audeze Penrose and Maxwell offers detailed , punchy , immersive , crisp and clear sound quality. It does it all whether you are using it to watch movie , listen to jazz music or playing games.

Differences : Audeze Penrose vs Maxwell vs Mobius and which one you should buy ?

In this section, we will discuss the difference between the Audeze Penrose(2022) , Mobius (2022) and the Maxwell ( 2023 )

Appearance and design

With Maxwell series Audeze made significant changes in their style, weight, and color. So, let’s take a look at them.

Audeze Penrose

Audeze penrose design , look and feel and build

Let’s admit it we had couple of complains on how Audeze penrose was designed. We din’t like its flat looking design. If you are using Audeze Penrose you probably need to add some cushion headband if you don’t have enough hair to support with that. Also brand new headphones has higher force clamping on your ears which can also reduced after couple of months.

Gamers also tend to buy stand and earpads to reduce the clamping force of these headphones.

Audeze Mobius

Audeze Mobius design , look and feel and build

Auduze Mobius’s built quality is good which is expected for a headphone which is priced at $399. The headphone is coated in silicon rubberized material that gives cool, stealth and mate black finish. Which we love it.

Headband is not easy to adjust , it’s just too tight and difficult to adjust the right setting. But if you are not changing the setting offer it should not be a problem for you. Clamping force is high, you might need to get used to it if you are more into comfortable headphone.  it is weighted at around  350 Grams.

it has nice earpads which made out of artificial leather so you don’t need to spend extra $ for earpads.

One thing we hate about Mobius is length of USB cable. Just to remind you Mobius is primarily a wired headphone it does support bluetooth but if you want to experience it’s full 8 channel audio you need wired connection. The cable length for USB is only 1.5 meters and analong aux is only 1.2 meters. Which can create problem if you want some distance and you might need extension .

Audeze Maxwell

Audeze Maxwell design , look& feel and build

Maxwell headphone is weighing at around 1.08 pounds (490gm ) Heavier then Penrose. But Designer has provided better comfort with it.It has a spring-steel head-band with a suspension strap you can adjust. The Design is cup style which provide better noise cancellation then Audeze Penrose .

Audeze maxwell comes with deluxe contoured earpads and replaceable suspension strap.

Audeze Maxwell is better than Penrose in so many ways.It is designed keeping long hours of gaming in mind. It is comfortable, good fit and looks cool on my bald head.

The winner : Audeze maxwell and Mobius

Latency of headphone

This is important for gamers. you do not want your headphone to play a sound once receiving it so late that it is not in sync with game you are playing or movie you are watching.

Audeze Mobius

The Audeze Mobius predominantly operates as a wired USB headset, presenting itself as an eight-channel surround output to your computer. It incorporates 3D audio and head-tracking tech, distinct from the Penrose model. On the other hand, the Penrose focuses on wireless functionality with lossless, low-latency transmission. It functions as a two-channel stereo headset, utilizing a 2.4GHz USB transmitter.

Audeze Maxwell

The Audeze Maxwell is a better choice compared to Penrose and Mobius version as it gives Ultra-Low Latency headphone. it is  3X Range of Traditional 2.4Ghz.  While this difference is significant on the paper practical usage is not that difference when you use it. While Maxwell purely designed keeping latency in mind Penrose is still good for Console gamers.
